The small village of Coldwaltham lies close to the South Downs. There are many fine old buildings here and in the nearby village of Hardham.
The church of St Giles has traces of 13th Century work, having been rebuilt in 1871.
Hardham is a conservation area with remains of an Augustine Priory and an 11th Century church, St Botolph, which is said to have the most complete set of early wall paintings in the country.
