Bramber is an attractive Downland village on the River Adur that used to be an important port before the sea level dropped. As well as the remains of a Norman Castle and the 11th Century church of St Nicholas it has the magnificent medieval house of St Mary's built in 1470. It is open to the public in the summer and the panelling and unique 'painted room' said to date from the time of Elizabeth 1 make it well worth a visit.
